Camp Capsules: QB

Josh McCown vs. Andrew Walter vs. JaMarcus Russell (when he gets here) vs. Daunte Culpepper?

With all the reports of Culpepper to sign, I believe it. It will bring even more competition, which Coach Kiffin was hoping would happen since Russell was supposed to be in camp already. The team is expecting a lengthy hold-out, so Kiffin had Culpepper worked out in Florida, liked what he saw, and now will have him a work out today with the team. Now, McCown has been everything Coach Kiffin & Knapp have expected, Walter has gotten better and is supposedly impressing in camp, while Russell is in Alabama knowing that Culpepper will have a 75 percent chance of making the team (for now at least) today.

But there is one question everyone should be wondering: When all of these Qb's listed above are indeed in uniform and practicing, who has the best chance to win? Hmmm...Well, if Russell doesn't get in to Napa soon, it could be Culpepper vs. McCown (if Daunte signs, very likely at the moment). If Daunte doesn't sign, then it will be Walter vs. McCown, which is currently in progress. Right now, if Kiffin were to name his starter today it would probably be McCown. McCown has the mobility to scramble and stand strong in the pocket, Walter is getting better at scrambling as well, Culpepper is (or was) an expert at it, and Russell is good at it as well. This should be a very heated battle all around, but until Russell gets into camp, it looks like the job of starting is slipping from his grasp every minute his agent can't work out his deal.
